INTRODUCTION AND THANKS AND POSSIBLE ORIGN,S OF MINK-MINKS SURNAME

People like"RANDY MINKS of kentucky and ROSE LAWSON"of missouri, PAM NAVRANT"of kansas and PEGGY KENYON" with letters and emails and AL MINK " gedcom and a host of others. from all the pieces i made a timeline of all the states and counties, according to name, date of MINK-MINKS surname" these states are missouri" newjersey"florida"illinois"pennsylvania"virginia"

kentucky"west virginia"colorado"texas"new hampshire"idaho washington"maryland"tennessee"north carolina" i live in the northwest part of the united states and my search was from the midwest to the easteren part of the united states, so it,s plain to tell, it was done long distance.i wanted a record to be found in case somebody cared enough to know who we were as i have cared to know who these people were. it is speculation by ESTER MINK in that there were three brothers and that the surname is listed in different places as MINK and MINKS and that the name is german and can be found spelled several different ways like" muench, munch, mink-minks info came from letters of DOT MINK and research by KIMBERLY MINK ' kimberly states that the surname mink - minks" can be associated with the germans and that it means"DESCENDANT of MENK and it is a pet form the name meinhardt and there is a book called"THE WORLD OF MINKS, MINCH, MENK" and because there are many descendants of the germanic people," the mink and minks bloodline may also contain" swiss, swedish, norwegian and dutch ancestry. according to "GERRELL HESTER and given to"DOUG WALTERS that the name is german and the original spelling was"mintzingmeyer and that most genealogiest say pertains to the begining men listed.

as" father minks"old man minks" johan minks" also informant" PEGGY KENYON"has said that she belives that the surname is german, she say,s that because of religious persecution in the various princeaplities of germany caused many people to flee, all this occurred over many years, some families fled through the netherlands and other,s, through the palentines of germany, i think this will eventually account for the spelling changes and the various claims of family origin, a particuler family may have stayed in england for example for one or two generations before comeing to america, for that family they would be immigrants of england and the spelling of the name be very" anglo " also "ESTHER MINK " states that the mink-minks families who settled in virginia, and north carolina and tennessee and kentucky, had thier origin in germany, in the early 1700,s there were wars, terrorism, and scarcity of fertile land and political upheaveal in an area of germany called the" plalatinate " these conditions added to the disheartened, in 1703, there was a very severe winter, so people begun to migrate out of palatinate, many went to holland to await passage on ships going to america, of course some of the german people stayed in holland, also by ESTHER MINK " with all her searching and information over the years given to her, not just only on her" WILLIAM MINK" but of other mink men who lived in the same area around the same time period as esther,s" william mink " she says one of these men was " JACOB MINK " it is thought that"jacob" may have been born in" pennsylvania " and came to virginia at a later date, but some have him born in virginia, and that from virginia he went southward through north and south carolina into georgia and than alabama, where jacob died, and jacob son, " james mink and prehaps other family members kept migrating westward and settled in whitehouse, texas, and smith county, tennessee, esther began to wonder if jacob and william, may have been brothers, the mink,s seem to be movers, many always desireing to explore and seek new territory, jacob and william named some of thier children the same names, she sayes some people may have gotton confused, also another early settler of virginia was" PETER MINKS " we do not know when or how it came about that some mink men spelled thier name" mink " while others spelled it" minks " however it has been discovered that in recent times that the names are both being used in the same families, with some siblings useing "mink " and some useing " minks " ,by dropping the " s" ALSO ESTHER says that there has been confusion over the name of" peter minks " there are, 2 marriage records givin for him about a year apart, by the same minister. it has been discovered that. there were 2 peter minks, the elder married" levinia minton, and the younger peter married hannah jane, the elder was probly the father of the younger

i REBECCA MINKS,HOOVER and mine, come down from where ever the starting point is, down to the

lost line of NICHOLAS MINK and or MINKS, mine is defintely NICHOLAS MINKS as proven by an enlarged obtained will. the spellings variations that people have had over time. belongs to one man only, i give thanks to MARILYN WILKIE,WADLEY, for the huge amount of her information pertaining to our wadley lines and all others, we discovered we are cousins, all info has been combined into one database file, of all allied family lines, no matter the connections, in order to make a complete book of all, regardless of who they are,or belonged to,

ORGANIZING

organizing mink was somebody else thought and way of getting thier mink database started so,

i " rebecca minks, hoover " have done the same thing with my database, of mink - minks information, and i will state again, i have not researched and verified all that is contained in my database as being correct but a fair amount of it is, or would lead you to belive the conculusions were right, some i have gained from the internet of other people,s work and and some has been given me,and of my own searching, i have done my best to verifiy my own line. and it is still a work in progress, there are a lot of notes in this database,

" this is the names of some of the first finnish colonists in what was called new sweden, the ship" charitas left stockholm for gothenburg on may, 3, 1641, haveing on board eight hired soldiers, two soldier prisioners and two misdemeanants who were sent for punishment and twenty three others, among which were some hired servants for the company, a nobleman and a priest who both took a trip to the colony for adventure and several other adventurers, besides a few regular colonist, but in gothenburg, where the ship "kalmar nyckel " was prepared for voyage, were gathered the imprisoned and many other finns with thier families, who all were born pioneers and colonist, both ships left gothenburg in" july 1641. the officers on the ships headed for trading post, which were dutch, with one exception and the majority of the soldiers and some of the sailors were swedes and finns. the actual colonist were nearly all of them finns. most of whom had thier families with them and among the finns that arrived to the delaware river expedition were " 17 year old anders classon mink, involuntary emigrant. was herding the company, quote hogs in 1644 and became a freedman in 1646" and 18,year old clas anders mink, the former, quote, son,who was herding hogs with his father in 1644" and 19 year old paul mink, another son of anders classon mink " also born sweden and lived yet as a farmer in 1893 from the internet a list of swedish families resideing in new sweded in 1793 some of the names are evidently dutch, as vanderweer and stark and meyer these were probably recorded as swedes on account of thier descent from the on the female side, haveing adopted the language and customs of that people, the swedish and dutch names are so very similar that it is prehaps impossible to distinguish them with certainity, many in the list may be dutch with swedish forms, owing to the mode of spelling, this list is very valueable for genealogy, it leaves nothing to conjecture and in relation to the amount of the swedish population on the delaware, at that period of time, the, fifty five years, after the arrival of the first colony under " minuit " the amount is 945,people, which of course includes all comeing into the country both from emigration and by natural increase, the numbers appear, varied as we consider how many ships arrived in the colonies dureing the first ten years of thier existence, and the time that elapsed before the list was made, but new comers to new countries tended to be or become sickly, and the locations chosen by the swedes were the most unfavorable to health that could have been selected, they settled along the tide waters on the banks of rivers and marshy creeks, ofton in the neighborhood of low swamps and the means of preventing and cureing diseases were probably little understood among them at that day, under all these unfavorable circumstances, there is little cause to wonder that thier number were so small, a great many of the colonist under" william penn " with the superior advantages in every repect, suffered severly from sickness dureing the early period of thier settlements in "philadelphia and it,s vicinity, most of thier family records which have come down to us, show dreadfull mortality among them within the space of ten or fifeteen years after thier arrival, this list was dated " 1693 " it was probably made out in the spring of that year and sent to sweden with the interesting letter written by " charles springer " and signed by thirty of the principle men in the colony, giveing an account of thier situation and soliciting the means of religious instruction, that letter dated " 31st of may, 1693. heads of families,i "rebeccaminks, hoover do not have a copy of that letter. by charles springer "there is a long list of names, , but the list does include a " paul mink "i rebecca minks, hoover, recieved a type of newsletter, of 10 pages, called " swedish colonial news vol 1, number 19, spring of 1999, it can be obtained from the swedish colonial society, 916 south swanson street, philadelphia, pa, 19147, it is full of interesting reading, on the history and building of thier church and of the people, whom

started the church, and had assignment of thier pews,in the newcastle county, delaware group, was"anders grelson mink " from west of brandywine was "peter palsson and wife geize " from "lucas/ carney / point ," john mink and wife elizabeth " paul mink and wife gertrude " there is a very long list of names, the list of of the members names of the church was taken on 24th of june in 1699, the church still stands to this day and is registered as a national landmark, named " holy trinity church and is still in use to this day for worship, june of 1999 and thier celebration marked 300 years of the church, so our mink who were members 300 years ago. it is in the area now known as " wilmington, delaware, in the above writeing was mentioned a letter written by " charles springer " charles springer was a main founding member of this church ", a lot of the men that i have found, on a majority have come from the area of georges twp. fayette co, now to establish this , you have to start with records to be found,in at least 1771, found in cumberland co, and than in 1773 cumberland became bedford co, in 1783 beford became westmoreland co,pa for people ive found within the state lines of pennsylvania and virginia from earlies beginings these are the main players 1773 phillip minks"1780 nicholas minks born according to a 1850 census was born in kentucky"1790 peter minks and phi;;ip minks"1800 john minks page 0544 551 fayette co,and nicholas minks and michale minks"1810 dariousminks and john minks and michale minks and nicholas minks for fayette co,next for washington co,virginia 1781 nicholas minks"1796nicholas minks"1800 nicholas minks"1801 nicholas minks married"elizabeth grissum"1803 john minkswas born virginia according to 1850 census of kentucky"1806 peter minks married in washington co and 1807peter minks married washington co,1810nicholas minks married,do not know if is 2 different families or date and boundary changes.

this undocumented information, came from a database listed on, ANCESTRY.COM. and to date has not been proven,by any researchers.while the information shown here. it may or may not be accurate, it was listed by JOAN BOWMAN,ASCHE. i started entering this information , on the date os, SEP, 10, 2000, as i have copied it from the internet," other mink /minks came from," al mink " it was a huge gedcom of 500 pages, i have tried very hard, to enter what people have given me and to compare amongst all of it, another informant and i do not have thier name, state that, johan, had 2 marriages, no wives names given, but children were listed. ALSO there is another source of information for mink /minks family lines only i dont know who, it came off the internet and of course there are differences of dates, also "joan bowman asche " has a copy of a will of nicholas mink " it is from fayette county, pennsylvania wills book-1 volume-1

ALSO i rebecca minks, hoover, have had a hard time, ive info from "peggy kenyon" on nichols"m"minks of stafford, kansas, my choices are to make a new line, with his same name, or" unlinking him for william minks, old man minks, and putting nichols"m"minks, as a son here to" johan nicholas mink/minks,untill i have better information for connections.which is what i have done, i rebecca hoover now have a copy of the will, it was made 28 sep, 1811 and probated,as nicholas was deceased on the date of 3 feb,1815 all the above info is true, nicholas last name is spelled" minks" also i found from cindy klein,"email"cbreezemom@

home.com" on the surname " mincks "why it is being used to prove the line and or spelling, i do not know, there is more proof in the info supplied, that she has on the internet at rootsweb, of the possiblities of 2 lines of people with a variation in thier last names. so none the less i am putting here what she has online, which is, " johann nicholas mincks born abt 1735 in germany, died 1815 fayette co,pa so i know she is talking about the one that i have his blowed up will of,

This genealogy work would have never happened without the urgeing of my brother roy clifton minks,jr over many years, or without the memory of our mother as to peoples names, app dates and things that happened and where, as we all did not know what she knew, i rebecca minks, hoover started my part about may of 92, unbeknown to us mom had cancer and died march 4th 1993, so it almost never happened, and i only have a 7th grade education, and did not think i could do it,
